DTE (Directorate of Technical Education) Maharashtra conducts MHT CET for admissions to undergraduate engineering courses in the state of Maharashtra. 85% of the seats in the state engineering colleges are filled through MHT CET, while 15% seats in private unaided colleges of Maharashtra are filled on All India Quota basis through in JEE Main.

Eligibility Criteria

Eligibility criteria varies for candidates belonging to different categories - home state and from states outside Maharashtra.

General category candidates must have scored minimum 50% aggregate marks in class 12th or equivalent exam from a recognized board or University with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, while reserve category (SC/ST/OBC) candidates need to have scored 45% and above in class 12th.

Exam Pattern

The entrance test is held in two papers - Paper I is for Mathematics and Paper II is for Physics and Chemistry. The exam is conducted as pen-paper based mode. Each paper is of 1 hour and 30 minutes duration. Both papers are for a total 100 marks. Each correct answer in Paper II is of 1 mark, while each correct answer in Paper I is of 2 marks.

Paper II (Physics & Chemistry) is conducted in English, Hindi, Marathi languages, while paper I is held in English language only.

Background / History

Every year, more than 4 lakh candidates appear in MHT CET state level engineering entrance test for admission to B.Tech programmes across the participating institutes. MHT CET was re-introduced in 2016, as before that (in 2014 and 2015), admissions were based on JEE Main score.
