JEE (Advanced) 2016 was conducted on 22 May. About 1.56 lakh students appeared for the test across India. The examination consisted of two papers, Paper 1 and Paper 2. Paper I was held from 9 am to 12 noon, and Paper II was held from 2 pm to 5 pm. Both papers had 18 questions per subject for 62 marks. Total marks for each paper was 186.

This year, Paper 1 had five multiple choice questions with a single correct option (+3, -1 Marking scheme) and eight questions of one or more correct type (+4, -2 Marking Scheme). There were five numerical-based questions (3 marks each), which carried no negative marks.

In paper 2, each subject had six single correct multiple choice questions (+3, -1 Marking scheme), eight multiple choice questions (+4, -2 Marking Scheme) with one or more correct options and two paragraphs with two questions each (+3, no negative marks).
